Here we go again! We are exiting our 4th trimester!  With the birth of our journey came a lot of excitement, , a lot of change, a lot of work, a lot of decision-making, and a lot of hopeful expectations.  We spent a good part of the last 3 months like many mother’s after birthing a child, in rest!  For the first 10 or so weeks of 2017, we rested, processed our last year, evaluated each decision and its positive or negative consequences, disappointments, highlights, and re-grouped as a family!  For the last 3-4 weeks, we have been preparing for our exit back into the change that is our new constant companion and what is to come next!

So, what change is that?  The house we have stayed at these last 3-½  months is going up for sale in a couple of weeks.  As we have not found a place to live in our Tiny House, we are preparing and moving back into Harvey, our RV.  The beginning of this summer is going to be remembered as the summer we got to go camping…a lot!

Many people vacation over the summer, and the Mikes will be following suite by staying at State Parks while we wait on God for his direction.  One of the hardest decisions we have had to make is what to do with our Tiny House in the interim.  Some dear friends have been storing our Tinies for us, and we are so very grateful!

As Darren and I have fasted and prayed these last 3 weeks, we have not yet found an answer to our question of what to do next.  Therefore, we will painfully and prayerfully be listing our Tiny Houses for sale.  With so many financial hardships this year, and not having a place to lease and live legally in the Tiny House, we have chosen to place them in the hands of God.  Either He will allow them to be sold and give us breathing room from the debt incurred, or they won’t sell, and another solution will rise up!

At first this seemed very confusing.  Why would God allow all these complications to happen if this was His desire for us, to minimalize and go tiny?  I think the better question is not in asking “why,” but asking what He is teaching us through this experience.  Because of, and in light of, our troubles last year, I have learned:

  • To rely on God daily for my basic needs, as well as my emotional ones
  • To deal with criticism and judgment
  • To make each resting spot a fun adventure
  • To recognize the differing strengths in my children, and more about who God made them to be
  • To be humble and grow in compassion for others. I have wrestled with my identity in many areas as I refocus on who I am in Christ
  • To be nimble when faced with change
  • To make the most of each situation
  • How little I actually need to live and have found so much joy in really living in each moment

On top of that, I have grown closer to my husband as we walk hand in hand through this together.  I have enjoyed homeschooling our girls and experienced the excitement that constant change can bring to the classroom!  I hope that flows forward as they learn to actually love learning, instead of “having” to learn!  This summer I hope to teach them more about nature as we live in close quarters to it!  Here are a few pictures to catch you up to date on the last couple of months!

Stay tuned as we have a couple fun posts coming up!  One on our time spent with Tiny House Nation, and one with our Tinies for sale! 🙂
