It is Friday morning, May 27th, 2016, and Darren says to me, “Hey, why don’t you ask your friend Kristy Bruck if she can come look at our house and tell us if there is anything else we need to do in order to sell our house.” (We had just finished overhauling our family room, and completing a few other projects, and she had just messaged me the night before to see if she could be of any help) Kristy came over that morning, took a look around, and said, “Clear the counters, clean, and you are already ready to list!” Later that night, Darren and I decided that listing it ourselves was going to be a lot of added stress, and we wouldn’t save as much money as we were hoping to, so we invited Kristy back over, and by the time she left late that night, a For Sale sign was in our yard, and contracts signed to sell our house! Darren and I stayed up way too late to finish cleaning and staging our house. The next morning, the picture guy came at 7:30am, and we left our house!
I was teaching 2 classes that morning at Prairie Life on 132nd St, Boot Camp and Total Body Conditioning, meaning I was working from 8-10am. Because I posted that our house was listed that morning on Facebook, we already had a showing at 10:45am! Then before we knew it there was a 1pm showing! SOLD!!! That was CRAZY FAST!!! That evening we accepted the offer, and step 2 is now complete! Step one being to sell almost everything we have!
We went to bed Saturday night bewildered! So much had transpired in the last 48 hours, and it left us feeling like our heads were spinning! Our plan was to move to my cousin’s farm, live in the basement, and build the tiny houses in the barn. This country girl at heart was ready, and Darren just bought some work cowboy boots that day!
The next morning we learned that that door had been shut due to other circumstances. Oh boy! Gulp! What now?!?! As I sat in church at The Gathering Place, I couldn’t help but well up with tears the entire service. How could this be? Now what? One thing I have learned through this journey so far is the rollercoaster of emotions as you say goodbye to one dream to grab onto another! I’ve broken attachments I had to some of my material things, said goodbye to having an AMAZING gym in my basement (a Personal Trainer’s dream), and now I was grieving the loss of my summer plans, among other losses.
BUT GOD (my most favorite saying these days), keeps reminding me of his love for me! Isn’t it baffling to feel like the floor dropped from under your feet, and yet at the same time feel God’s perfect peace and love in the midst of a serious problem!? I sat in church not really sad, but thankful. My heart was overflowing with gratitude at his presence and knowledge that He is completely in control, and will meet our every need. There has been a lot of that going on lately for me. In April, I lost one of my best friends, Lisa, and had that exact same feeling. It’s like a sharp aching pain, surrounded by love, peace, and security. I’m not sure if you can relate to what I’m saying or feeling, but it is amazing, and comes from the peace that only Jesus can give. Not that I don’t feel a hurting ache, but that He overcomes it!
These last couple days, He keeps reminding me that He’s got this. Scripture from the Bible comes to mind: “He who did not spare His own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things.” Romans 8:32 and “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5 Songs come up on my playlist: Cause you know just what we need before we say a word. You’re a good good Father. It’s who you are, and I’m loved by you, It’s who I am. Quotes come to mind: He is no fool who gives what he can not keep, to gain what he can not lose. Jim Elliot
Isn’t it just that though? God doesn’t call us all to the exact same journey, but he does call us to follow Him and trust Him. How can your faith grow if it is not stretched? Relationships grow stronger though the storms and trials, not having everything perfectly together all the time. So it is on our journey.
So here’s where we are at: On July 15th we will close on our house! Yay! At this point, we no longer have a place to build and live during the building process. We estimate that that will take about 4-6 months to complete. We also need a place to put our tiny houses when we are done building them. We would like to lease 1-5 acres of land for 4-5 years, within a 30/45 minute drive from Omaha. Here’s where I ask for YOUR HELP!
1) Do you know of a place we could live/build our tiny houses? Preferably with some kind of an out building or barn for a roof over them so we can continue working when it rains, though that is not necessary.
2) Do you know of anyone who owns land just outside of Omaha that we could lease a little land from?
3) If you don’t have any ideas on question 1 & 2, would you please pray for us in those areas? ☺
